Sale of former school set for Monday
As of Monday, Jan. 30 at 2:30 p.m., Wiscasset will no longer own the former Wiscasset Primary School, according to Town Manager Marian Anderson. That’s when the title will be transferred to the new owner, a local business that plans to use the property in a way that is in keeping with Wiscasset, although what the project will be has not been decided, Anderson said.
She delivered the news Thursday night, Jan. 26 during the public comment portion of the School Committee meeting in the Wiscasset Middle High School library. The school’s dedication sign is in her office and a plan will be made for where to keep it, because it is a part of Wiscasset’s history, Anderson said.
On Jan. 23, an applicant listed as “Jon Williams and associates” was on the agenda of the planning board for a pre-application site plan review conference about the Gardiner Road property. The item, and the board’s meeting, were canceled because the applicant couldn’t get there due to weather reasons, Town Planner Ben Averill said.
The school closed in 2015. Last year, the town dropped the asking price to $525,000.
