Fashion suits her
If you've liked having a consignment boutique in town in recent months, not to worry. FEnique Boutique on Route 1 has changed hands and its name, but will still offer high-end fashion on the cheap.
Woolwich native Heather Peaslee, now a Westport Island resident, has the shop now. She's calling it Livy Lane Clothing Exchange.
A married mother of four children ages 8 to 14, Peaslee is a first-time business owner.
“I'm taking things as they come, and trying not worry about the what-ifs,” she said. That's been the biggest challenge, said Peaslee, who worked at the Wiscasset Community Center until earlier this summer.
The former Wiscasset resident has homeschooled her children and taught at the Midcoast Maine Homeschool Center in Bath.
The city of ships is where she met Tanya Pomerleau at Pomerleau's shop, which later moved to Wiscasset. Peaslee went on to shop at the Wiscasset store that she has just made her own.
Why did she take the leap into ownership?
“I have no idea. It just sounded like a fun idea,” Peaslee said. “I've been toying with what I'm going to do when I grow up.”
She got married right after high school, and now that her children are older, she was looking for a career, not a part time job, she said.
Working in fashion suits Peaslee. “I love everything about fashion. I love to see what's trending globally. I like putting pieces together, and helping people find clothes that will make them happy.”
Peaslee plans to trim prices, increase the stock of jewelry and high-end clothing, sell vintage clothing and jewelry, too, and continue carrying mall brands.
The “Livy Lane” in the shop's name is Peaslee's long-standing nickname for her daughter, Olivia Elaine, 11. “I couldn't wait to tell her,” Peaslee said about naming the store after her daughter. “She was thrilled.”
Peaslee's children have been helping their mother at the shop, with everything from helping customers to steaming clothes and sweeping. “They are so excited,” she said.
Livy Lane Clothing Exchange is open Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Find it on Facebook and at www.livylaneclothingexchange.webs.com.
