Salon expansion passes, pending parking
As long as she can show she has the parking for it, Desiree Bailey can grow her Possibilities Salon, the Wiscasset Planning Board decided Monday night. The board passed Bailey’s site plan for changing her former home at 145 Gardiner Road from residential to commercial use; the approval is pending her providing Code Enforcement Officer Stan Waltz with a sketch of the parking, members said.
The building, near the existing salon, will house services including acupuncture, Reiki, massage, stone therapy and facials, according to paperwork Bailey submitted to the town.
“I’m very excited about being able to offer all these things. It’s not only a day spa, but a holistic spa. So it goes along with my plan that I’ve had all along about being able to stay here in Wiscasset,” Bailey said during the meeting. She added later in the discussion that she has been working to assemble people who are not only good at their work but whose personalities go well together.
“It’s finally coming together,” she said.
The land is zoned for commercial use, Town Planner Ben Averill tells the board in an Aug. 3 memo. The memo recommended the board approve the site plan.
On parking, Bailey said she wasn’t sure how much is there, but that she has room for more. She didn’t think she would need more for now, she told the board. “It would be very easy to do that if I had to, but right now I don’t believe that that’s necessary.”
Members said parking is one of the criteria for reviewing the site plan. Asked again about the number of spots, Bailey estimated 15.
By member Karl Olson’s calculation, she needed 16. Then the board asked about the garage on-site. It can fit two cars, Bailey said.
The vote in favor of the site plan, pending the parking sketch, ran 6-0. The board instructed Bailey to get Waltz the sketch. “Then you’ll be all set,” Chairman Ray Soule said.
Bailey thanked the board.
