Here comes Wiscasset’s ‘Early Bird’
People are in a good mood when they come to Wiscasset’s Early Bird sale, Kelley Belanger said. The owner of “In the Clover” at 85A Main Street looks forward to the event that the store has taken part in for six years. Saturday will make seven.
Belanger and other business owners interviewed said the Early Bird sale tends to bring in some customers who are stepping through their shops’ doorways for the first time. It comes near the start of the holiday shopping season, which Belanger and others are viewing with optimism.
“I’m just a hoper,” Geoff Groleau said. He and wife Julie Groleau own Papa Geppetto’s Toys & Treasures at 49 Water St. Fifty-five boxes of LEGO® products have arrived, in keeping with the transition the store has undergone to selling mostly items under $20.
Belanger is eying a strong shopping season, based on business the last several months. “Summer was terrific and fall was terrific,” she said about sales at the boutique with unique clothing lines, accessories and body care items as well as fragrances from around the world.
Across the Sheepscot River in Edgecomb, Peapod Jewelry will be taking part in the Early Bird on Saturday.
“It’s so much fun for people to come in early,” owner Ronna Lugosch said.
Lugosh was also anticipating a bright shopping season ahead. She’s mailing out 6,000 post cards about both the Edgecomb location, at 40 U.S. Route 1 and her online store that has a nationwide following.
“So we are looking forward to a very exciting season,” she said.
