‘Glimpse of Glidden Street’ for St. Andrew’s Outreach
Interior designers, painters and others are busy preparing St. Andrew’s Parish House in Newcastle for a Design Showhouse, the church’s community outreach fundraiser for the year. Scheduled for Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festivities will include tours of the Arts and Crafts architectural gem of the church itself, visits to select buildings and grounds on historic Glidden Street, a silent auction, concerts in the church and a preview party.
“In past years, the church’s summer fair was an event everyone in the area flocked to,” said Showhouse organizer Ruth Piper. “We hope this new concept will be just as popular. An added benefit is the incentive to give the beautiful Parish House a makeover.”
Fourteen area designers will be showcasing their wares in 10 rooms, among them Sproul’s Furniture, Salt Bay Trading Company, The Paint Room at Nobleboro Antique Exchange; and Moulinette and Birch, both shops in Wiscasset. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the church’s Outreach partners, which include the Lincoln County Energy Fund, Ecumenical Food Pantry, CHIP and Habitat for Humanity.
The preview party will be held Sept. 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. Tickets for this, which will be limited, will be $25 per person or $40 a couple; and for the Showhouse and tours from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, they are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
All tickets will be available at the following locations: Skidompha Library, Nobleboro Antique Exchange, at St. Andrew’s Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Birch at 60 Main St. in Wiscasset, and in front of Sherman’s Bookstore in Damariscotta Sept. 16, 17, 23 and 24. There will be a preview of the silent auction set up at Skidompha two weeks before the Showhouse begins. For more information, call St. Andrew’s at 563-3533 or Ruth Piper at 380-1707.
