Dinner, music and more at St. Patrick Church March 17
Come and celebrate the wonderful Irish heritage that was instrumental in the formation of St. Patrick Church in Newcastle on March 17. As in years past, the Shamrocks will be hosting a traditional corned beef dinner (roast chicken is an option) with all the usual side dishes, including home baked Irish soda breads and desserts in Cheverus Hall on the grounds of St. Patrick Church, 380 Academy Hill Road in Newcastle. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and tickets are $15 each for adults, $8 for children under 12 years of age or $40 for a family.
The dinner features performances once again by The Murphy Family as well as John Reinhardt. Join in the fun and sing along to traditional Irish songs. Raffles will include two gift baskets — a basket of traditional Irish products as well as a Lucky Shamrock Lottery.
In addition to our celebration, the History Project of St. Patrick will present a preview exhibit of artifacts and memorabilia celebrating the life of Bishop Jean le Febvre de Chererus. In 1876, he was invited to come to Boston and assist with ministering to the Native Americans. Fr. Cheverus frequently visited the few Catholic families who settled in Bristol and Newcastle. As the population of Catholics grew, Fr. Cheverus offered the spiritual inspiration for the construction of “a good brick church,” the church of St. Patrick that still stands today.
Tickets will be available after all Masses on March 11 and 12 or by calling Lynn Maloney (207-798-2831). We are looking forward to seeing you and celebrating our heritage at Cheverus Hall at St. Patrick Church in Newcastle. Tickets will not be available at the door.
